In-Character Notes/Setting

Post  Admin on Tue Aug 30, 2011 4:24 pm

These are just notes about the dream that we've found difficult to convey in any other manner. Just keep these in mind when roleplaying.

Dream Setting
1. The dream takes place in the United States and is located in Florida, so we are loosely following Florida law. We aren't following every technicality, just the most basic laws set such as the age of consent and such.
2. The time of the dream is present day, so please assign birthdays as such!
3. The continuity is mostly realistic. This means that we do not participate in fantasy or science-fiction plot lines.

Concerning Environments:
1. There are NPC staff members and guards positioned throughout the hospital. This means that if your patient does not have the right jurisdiction, wandering and escaping are not possible without your patient being caught and escorted back to the room.
- To make this more clear, anything in the Visitor Services hallway is restricted to privileged patients and they need expressed permission from a therapist to get here. This includes the game room and the garden. Staff members can wander freely.
-Remember, just because you can get your avatar there does not mean your character can.

2. Any glass seen throughout the dream is thick glass and thus no character would be able to reasonably break it. However, some objects throughout the dream, such as the mirrors, CAN be broken, but this will result in your patient's privileges being restricted when caught.
- In addition to the glass rule, most things in the dream are too durable to be reasonable broken. This includes your patient's drawers, bed frames, doors, etc. These things can be moved, but bear in mind the average weight and your character's relative strength. Characters in east haven are human, not superhuman.

3. As your initial roleplay will suggest, your characters are stripped searched prior to being admitted, so patients will not be able to sneak in obviously dangerous objects on their own.

4. Areas such as the cafeteria and the infirmary do not have dangerous objects such as knives and needles lying out in the open.

5. If your character behaves well, they are allowed 'safe' objects such as ipods and books, but they will be taken away if your character does something harmful with them. Any example of this would be your character is allowed a necklace, and then attempts to strangle them self with it. The necklace would then be taken away.
- Please note you do need a reasonable explanation for how your patient obtained their object. Things such as books, magazines, and notepads can be provided, but something like an ipod a patient would need a different explanation for such as a family member.

Concerning Actions:
1. Staff/Patient relationships are not allowed in this hospital in most instances. This isn't to say we will stop you from roleplaying such, but once player catches them in the act and rats them out, the participating staff member will be fired.

2. The age of consent of the state the dream is located in is 18. Again, we won't stop such roleplay from taking place, there will simply be IC consequences for such relationships.

These will be updated as necessary.
